Activation of Health Promotion Program of Public Health Centers

Abstract

|
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to strengthen the health promotion services and activities of the public health centers.
Methods : A self-administered questionnaire survey was carried out for the participants of 2005 and 2006 Field Management Training program(FMTP) in Health Promotion supported by MOHSA. And we reviewed the administrative data of Management Center for Health Promotion, KIHASA and other institutions.
Results : Many public health center had not the special team and the sufficient responsible human resources. Temporary workers accounted for 58.7 percent, implying that sustainability of the task was a big concern. The health promotion staff working at health promotion centers had not received the appropriate human resource development programs, and technical assistance to meet their responsibilities. The evaluation system was not- participatory, output oriented, redundant, and did not contribute to motivating related persons.
Conclusions : On the consideration of above findings, suggestions have been made such as the identification of the roles and core competencies of public health, the organization of health promotion team in public health center, the development of public health human resources, the provision of evidence-based programmes, and the reform of the monitoring and evaluation system to support that the public health workforce can respond effectively and appropriately to health promotion issues.
